Magnesium Chips

Product Details

Magnesium Chips / Magnesium Turnings / Magnesium Rasping

Magnesium chips, also known as magnesium turnings,  are a form of elemental magnesium metal produced by mechanically processing standard-purity (99.8% Mg) or ultra-high-purity (99.98% Mg) magnesium ingots. The process can be adjusted to produce magnesium chips and granules that meet different shape, size, and surface area requirements

Properties

Purity: Available in standard purity (99.8% Mg) and ultra-high purity (99.98% Mg).

Size: The size of magnesium chips can vary. For example, high-purity magnesium chips can be 0.5-3.5 mm in size. Some chips are available in specific mesh sizes, such as 6-35 mesh.

Chemical Composition (%)

Product Grade Shape Composition (%) AD (g/cm3) Particle Size
Milling Magnesium Scrap EM-1 Chips  99.7% 2mm*3mm/th.0.5mm
EM-2 Chips  99.7% 3mm*5mm/th.0.5mm
EM-3 Chips  99.7% 2mm*2mm/th.0.5mm
EM-4 Chips  99.7% 3mm*7mm/th.0.5mm
It can be customized according to customer’s specific demands.

Applications

Chemical Reactions: Magnesium turnings are commonly used as a reductant in Grignard reactions for specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, and agricultural applications.

Alloy Preparation: They are also used in the preparation of magnesium alloys, which offer a unique combination of light weight, strength, and corrosion resistance.

Pyrotechnics: Magnesium turnings can be used in pyrotechnics, firework sparklers, flares, and flash photography due to their ability to emit a bright white light when burned.

Metal Matrix Composites: Magnesium turnings are used in the machining of magnesium-based metal matrix composites, which are used in aerospace and automotive industries
